We’re determined to secure a spot in AFCON 2025 – Ghana FA

Neil Armstrong-Mortagbe, Head of Public Relations and Strategy for the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has reassured fans that the Black Stars are determined to keep their qualification hopes alive for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) despite a challenging start.

Ghana’s national team faces the risk of missing the AFCON tournament for the first time in two decades, having failed to win in their first four qualifiers. Otto Addo’s side began with a 1-0 home loss to Angola, followed by a 1-1 draw with Niger.

In October, the Black Stars were eager to rebound in a doubleheader against Sudan. Unfortunately, they managed only a goalless draw in the first match at the Accra Sports Stadium, followed by a 2-0 defeat in the return leg. These results have left Ghana in third place in Group F with just two points.

In a recent interview, Armstrong-Mortagbe emphasized that, despite the setbacks, the Black Stars will fight for a spot in the tournament. “The results this month will be telling,” he told Metro TV. “As long as there’s a mathematical chance, we won’t give up. It’s either never say die or ‘wou kum ap3m ap3m beba,’” he added.

For Ghana to qualify, they must win both of their remaining matches against Angola and Niger while hoping Sudan loses its games against Niger and Angola.

The Black Stars will travel to Luanda to face Angola on November 15 at Estádio 11 de Novembro and return to play Niger at the Accra Sports Stadium three days later. Meanwhile, the team will begin their training camp in Accra on Sunday in preparation for the crucial fixtures.
