Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director, Henry Asante Twum, has reaffirmed his confidence in Black Stars head coach Otto Addo and his technical team to secure qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite the team’s recent failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

In an interview with Asempa FM, Asante Twum addressed the criticism following the Black Stars’ disappointing AFCON qualifying campaign, but he maintained his belief in Addo’s leadership.

He acknowledged that the current technical team differs from the one that helped Ghana qualify for the 2022 World Cup, with key figures like Chris Hughton, George Boateng, and Didi Dramani no longer involved. However, he expressed optimism about the capabilities of Addo and his new coaching staff, which includes assistants John Paintsil and Joseph Laumann, and goalkeeper trainer Fatau Dauda.

“Otto Addo qualified us for the World Cup in Qatar, but at that time, there was Chris Hughton, George Boateng, and Didi Dramani,” Asante Twum stated. “I admit that this time, it is different, but I believe that Otto Addo and his technical team are competent and capable of delivering World Cup qualification.”

Currently second in Group I with nine points, the Black Stars will face Chad and Madagascar in their upcoming World Cup qualifying matches as they aim to secure one of the spots for the 2026 World Cup, which will be jointly hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
