Ghana Premier League side Aduana Stars have identified three potential candidates to fill their vacant head coach position following the dismissal of Yaw Acheampong, Ghanasoccernet.com reports.
Acheampong was relieved of his duties after a string of underwhelming results in the ongoing league season. His tenure hit a low point after Aduana Stars suffered a 2-0 defeat to Asante Kotoko at the Nana Agyemang Park on matchday 12. Goals from defender Patrick Asiedu and forward Albert Amoah sealed the victory for the Porcupine Warriors, leaving Aduana Stars languishing in 13th place with just 12 points from 12 matches.
Under Acheampong’s leadership, the Fire Boys managed only two wins, alongside six draws and four losses, leading to growing frustration among fans and management.
To address the crisis, Aduana Stars have shortlisted three candidates, consisting of two local coaches and one foreign coach. However, the club is reportedly leaning towards appointing a home-based manager.
Speaking to Ghanasoccernet.com, Aduana Stars’ Communications Director, Evans Oppong, confirmed the development:
“We are considering three coaches—two locals and one foreign—but it is likely we will go in for a local coach. We will name a new coach within this week.”
The club’s leadership hopes the new appointment will bring stability and help steer the two-time league champions back to winning ways.
