English-born Ghanaian midfielder Hiram Boateng had a bittersweet outing for Mansfield Town FC as he scored but was later sent off in their 3-1 defeat to Bolton Wanderers in an English League One match on Tuesday.

Boateng opened the scoring in the 34th minute, finishing off a precise pass from Grenadian international Lucas Akins to give Mansfield a promising lead.

However, the game took a dramatic turn in the second half. Boateng received a second yellow card in the 70th minute, leaving Mansfield to play the remainder of the match with 10 men.

Bolton wasted no time capitalizing on their advantage. Dion Charles equalized just five minutes after Boateng’s dismissal. Nigerian forward Victor Adeboyejo then put Bolton ahead, with an assist from English-born Ghanaian defender Jordi Osei-Tutu, who came off the bench in the second half.

John McAtee rounded off the victory for Bolton with a late third goal, ensuring a frustrating night for Mansfield despite their earlier promise.

Boateng, who has now scored twice in 15 League One appearances this season, will be disappointed that his red card proved to be the turning point in the game.

Mansfield Town will seek to bounce back from the defeat, while Boateng will look to make amends once he serves his suspension.
