Nana Oduro Sarfo’s “GFA is not accountable to supporters or Ghanaians” comments are so irresponsible and ignorant

Lack of Accountability remains one of the problems Ghana has faced since the mid-20th Century.

Lack of Accountability has bedevilled every sector of Ghana and something ought to be done to halt it.

Ghana football has been in a free fall with the Ghana Football Association being the biggest culprit in the last five years.

2024 was undoubtedly the worst year probably in the history of Ghana’s men’s football after the Black Stars failed to qualify for the 2025 AFCON. It was the first time in two decades the nation has secured a slot at the biggest African football jamboree.

Speaking on Asempa FM‘s Sports Nite, Nana Oduro Sarfo, an Executive Council Member of the Black Stars, made a very disrespectful comment that many Ghanaians will not take lightly.

In a bid to explain the structure of the GFA, the veteran football administrator goofed and made a dirty revelation where he stressed that the GFA’s primary obligation is to the football entities that make up the association.

“The Ghana Football Association is accountable to the football people. It is an organization. We are accountable to every football club. The association is made of individual clubs,” Oduro explained.

He clarified that while the GFA values the passion of supporters, its formal accountability does not extend to the general populace or fans.

“We are not accountable to supporters or Ghanaians,” Oduro stated, reinforcing that the GFA’s governance is directed by the clubs that form its membership.

Who is Nana Oduro Sarfo?

Nana Oduro Sarfo is a veteran in the football business, having been in the system for over three decades. He has an immeasurable experience in women’s football as well after chairing the Black Maidens Management Committee.

He was appointed the Berekum Chelsea C.E.O in 2021.

How irresponsible is his comments

It could be the most irresponsible comment of 2025 already. It is like saying Ghana Education Service is not accountable to Ghanaians if you say GFA is not accountable to Ghanaians.

An over 60-year-old man who has enormous experience in football administration cannot speak like a 19-year-old heading a Division 3 Football Club. His words are a reflection of how the GFA members see Ghanaians. They do not respect the feelings of Ghanaians. They are selfish, hypocrites and clueless.

If the Ghana Football Association is not accountable to Ghanaians, then who are they accountable to? Is it the clubs? If yes, who and who constitutes the clubs? Are they not the fans who make the clubs look alive?

Oduro Sarfo should immediately resign from his role because he doesn’t understand why he is in the GFA EXCO. He knows he will get cash that he did not struggle for at the GFA, and it is the main reason why he is there.

2025 just got underway, and all irresponsible comments from officials should be buried. Ghana just needs proper leaders who will think of the interest of Ghanaians but not people like Oduro Sarfo who will always be passing irresponsible and naive comments.

Someone should inform Oduro Sarfo that the dollars he has been enjoying at the GFA are all taxpayer’s money. The huge sum of money the government provide for the national teams is for every Ghanaian, so every Ghanaian must demand accountability from the GFA.

If the GFA is unaccountable to Ghanaians, then I guess they make an account to the Nigerian Football Federation every Friday.

I will blame zero accountability in Ghana as the reason why Nana Oduro Sarfo made that shocking comment.
