Plymouth Argyle are on the verge of signing Ghanaian international midfielder Michael Baidoo from Swedish club Elfsborg, according to Plymouth Live.

The 25-year-old was spotted at Home Park during Argyle’s 2-2 Championship draw with Bristol City, where the Pilgrims twice battled back from deficits to secure a point. Baidoo watched the match from the directors’ area in the Lower Mayflower Grandstand.

The agreement for Baidoo’s transfer was finalized before Wayne Rooney’s departure as Argyle’s head coach yesterday. With the winter transfer window officially open, the final paperwork for the move is expected to be completed soon.

Argyle previously made a club-record bid for Baidoo in late August during the summer transfer window. While the midfielder expressed his interest in joining, Elfsborg opted to retain him due to their participation in a crucial UEFA Europa League play-off against Norwegian side Molde.

Elfsborg ultimately advanced to the Europa League group stage, defeating Molde 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 aggregate draw. In the league phase, Elfsborg recorded two wins, one draw, and three losses from their first six matches. They are set to face Nice at home and Tottenham Hotspur away in late January.

Baidoo has made a significant impact in the competition, scoring twice for Elfsborg, both from the penalty spot. His goals came in a 1-0 victory over Italian giants Roma and a thrilling 4-3 loss to Turkish powerhouse Galatasaray.

The addition of Baidoo is expected to bolster Argyle’s midfield options as they look to climb the Championship standings.
