Samuel Anim Addo, a former member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council, has been charged with breaching the GFA Ghana Premier League Regulations following remarks he made on the social media platform X.

The GFA accuses Anim Addo of misconduct, asserting that his comments tarnished the reputation of both the Association and the Ghana Premier League. The charges fall under Articles 34(6)(d) and 38(8)(c) of the league’s regulations and stem from statements Anim Addo made regarding a match between Accra Lions and Dreams FC.

In his remarks, Anim Addo accused referee Maxwell Hanson of being involved in “dirty work,” calling him a “hatchet man.” He further alleged that the GFA had tried to silence him for speaking out against poor officiating.

Anim Addo, now serving as the President of Young Apostles FC, has until Monday, January 13, 2024, to officially respond to the charges. His comments, which came amidst ongoing debates over officiating standards in Ghanaian football, have sparked broader discussions about the role and accountability of referees.

The GFA has reportedly taken a firm stance, viewing Anim Addo’s accusations as baseless and harmful to the league’s credibility. The case’s resolution is expected to set a precedent for handling public criticisms of referees and the GFA within Ghanaian football.
