Andre Ayew’s impressive start to 2025 continued as the Ghanaian captain scored his second goal of the season in as many matches.
However, his efforts were not enough to prevent Le Havre from suffering a 2-1 defeat to RC Lens at the Stade Océane.
Ayew, who found the net last week against his former club Marseille—earning a standing ovation for not celebrating—was quick to make an impact again. In the ninth minute, he capitalized on a rebound from Hervé Koffi’s save, calmly slotting the ball home from close range to give Le Havre an early lead. The goal showcased Ayew’s sharp instincts and ability to seize crucial moments.
Le Havre, however, failed to build on Ayew’s opener. Yoann Salmier missed a prime chance to double the advantage, and the hosts were punished when Lens debutant Goduine Koyalipou headed in an equalizer before halftime.
Lens dominated the second half, applying sustained pressure that eventually led to Deiver Machado’s decisive strike in the 77th minute.
Despite Ayew’s standout performance and leadership, Le Havre’s sixth consecutive defeat leaves them in a precarious position, sitting four points away from safety in their battle against relegation.
