Asante Kotoko’s Interim Management Committee (IMC) Chairman, Nana Apinkra, has made it clear that the club will not resume football activities until their concerns are fully addressed by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).
Speaking during a meeting between Kotoko and the GFA in Kumasi—the first since the tragic killing of a supporter, Nana Pooley—Apinkra stressed the need for key reforms before the team returns to action. Kotoko, alongside Hearts of Oak, has presented several demands, including the creation of an autonomous league body, improved security measures, guaranteed representation on the GFA Executive Council, and a fair share of television revenue.
“As for the GFA, we already know you take us for granted, but from now on, whether you like it or not, you will respect us. Kotoko and Hearts cannot be ignored. All we are asking for are better security measures,” Nana Apinkra stated.
He clarified that the club is not opposed to playing but insists that their conditions must be met first. “Even today, if you respond to our proposals, we will play. But until then, count us out because we cannot sit back and watch another life lost,” he added.
Meanwhile, the GFA has held discussions with representatives from all 18 Premier League clubs to address security concerns, with efforts ongoing to create a safe environment for football to resume.
