Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council member Nana Oduro Sarfo has opposed the continued suspension of the Ghana Premier League, arguing that football must resume despite ongoing investigations into the tragic murder of Asante Kotoko supporter Francis Frimpong, also known as Nana Pooley.
Nana Pooley, a dedicated Kotoko fan, was fatally stabbed in Nsoatre following the club’s Week 19 clash against Nsoatreman FC in the Ghana Premier League. In response, the GFA suspended all Week 20 matches to allow discussions with stakeholders on the implications of the violence.
Speaking to Akoma FM on Tuesday, Nana Oduro Sarfo defended the need to restart the league. “We cannot give a total blackout to football, we need to meet a calendar. The issue that happened in Nsoatre was not football, it was murder. It was someone killing somebody in debatable circumstances whether in or outside the stadium walls.”
He further argued that halting all football activities would not be the right approach. “So blacklisting all football matches, in my opinion, will not result in good order,” he stated.
Instead, he emphasized the importance of enforcing regulations to prevent a repeat of the violent clashes witnessed during Kotoko’s match against Nsoatreman FC.
