Spanish club CD Lugo have officially announced the signing of Ghanaian forward Jerry Afriyie on loan from Saudi Arabian side Al-Qadsiah.
Afriyie, who previously played for Thoughts FC in Ghana, joined Al-Qadsiah but was immediately loaned out to the Spanish lower-tier side to continue his development.
Confirming the transfer, CD Lugo expressed their excitement in a social media post, stating:
“Finally we can say… Jerry has arrived,” the club wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
The 18-year-old has been widely regarded as one of Ghana’s most promising young talents. His rapid rise from playing for lower-division club Thoughts FC to earning international recognition has been remarkable.
Afriyie first gained attention with his impressive performances for Ghana’s U20 team at the 2023 WAFU Zone B Tournament in Togo. His standout display earned him a debut call-up to the Black Stars during a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Niger.
He made an immediate impact on his senior debut, scoring a goal, though Ghana ultimately suffered a 1-2 loss to Niger.
His talent was further highlighted when he won the Golden Boot at the WAFU Zone B regional competition, where Ghana finished as runners-up to Nigeria, securing a spot in the U20 AFCON in Ivory Coast this April.
Afriyie also played a key role in Ghana’s U20 squad that won the 2024 African Games, hosted in Ghana, where he emerged as the tournament’s top scorer.
Now at CD Lugo, the young forward will be aiming to continue his development and make a strong impact in Spanish football.
