Hearts of Oak SC homeless after Legon Stadium rejection

Following the rejection of the University of Ghana Sports Stadium by the Club Licensing Manager, Hearts of Oak are now exploring three alternative venues for their home matches.

After the closure of the Accra Sports Stadium, the Phobian Club had turned to the Legon Stadium as a substitute venue. However, ahead of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League’s resumption, the Club Licensing Manager deemed the Legon Stadium unfit to host league games.

In an interview with Sporty FM, Hearts of Oak’s Communications Director, Kwame Opare Addo, confirmed the club’s new plans. “We are considering Sogakope, Kpando and Tema stadiums as alternative venues,” he said.

Furthermore, venues such as Berekum Chelsea’s Golden City Park, Basake Holy Stars’ AAK Ampanian Stadium in Nzema, and Young Apostles’ Wenchi Sports Stadium have also been disqualified for hosting league matches.

These decisions align with the GFA’s Enhanced Matchday Safety and Security Protocols, implemented after the tragic stabbing of Asante Kotoko fan Nana Pooley in Nsoatre earlier this month.

Despite these challenges, Matchday 20 of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League is scheduled to take place this weekend at venues that have been approved.
