Ghanaian powerhouse Hearts of Oak have extended their congratulations to captain Benjamin Asare after he received his first-ever call-up to the Black Stars for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.

Asare earned a place in Otto Addo’s 23-man squad, which was announced on Friday morning, following his stellar performances in the Ghana Premier League this season.

The 32-year-old shot-stopper has been a key figure for Hearts of Oak, who currently occupy third place in the league standings. He has featured in 18 matches, conceding just seven goals while recording an impressive 12 clean sheets.

Asare’s ability to produce crucial saves in decisive moments has been instrumental in his team’s campaign, catching the attention of the Black Stars’ technical staff. His consistency between the posts ultimately secured him a spot in the squad for the upcoming qualifiers.

The former Great Olympics goalkeeper will compete for the starting role alongside established names such as Lawrence Ati-Zigi and Joseph Wollacott. He is one of only three home-based players selected for the squad, joining Nations FC defender Razak Simpson and Medeama’s Kamaradini Mamudu.

“From hard work to history! Congratulations to our number one goalie Benjamin Asare on his call-up to the national team. Well-deserved. We wish him all the best,” Hearts of Oak wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Ghana will host Chad on March 21 at the Accra Sports Stadium before traveling to Morocco to take on Madagascar on March 24, 2024.

The Black Stars currently sit second in Group I with nine points, level with leaders Comoros. Securing maximum points in these matches will be crucial in strengthening their bid for World Cup qualification.
