Ghanaian forward Kwaku Karikari made a decisive impact off the bench to help AC Horsens secure a dramatic 3-2 victory over Esbjerg fB in a Danish 1st Division Promotion Group clash at the Nordstern Arena.
Karikari, who came on in the 68th minute for Sebastian Pingel, set up the winning goal just ten minutes later. His precise pass found Sanders Ngabo in the box, who coolly slotted home in the 78th minute to seal all three points for Horsens.
The match began with an early goal from Pingel in the 13th minute to put Horsens ahead. However, Esbjerg responded with a stroke of fortune as Ole Kolskogen inadvertently turned the ball into his own net, followed by a converted penalty from Tim Freriks to give the visitors a 2-1 lead. Emil Frederiksen brought Horsens level before halftime with a well-taken strike after linking up with Ngabo.
Despite Esbjerg enjoying a slight edge in possession (52%), it was Horsens who looked more threatening in attack, recording seven shots on target compared to Esbjerg’s three.
The result brings Horsens closer in the all-time head-to-head with Esbjerg, which now stands at 13 wins for Esbjerg, 10 for Horsens, and 11 draws.
Horsens will look to build on this momentum when they face Kolding IF in their next fixture on April 21st.
