Maleace Asamoah played a pivotal role in Wigan Athletic’s 1-0 victory over Shrewsbury Town in League One on Friday afternoon at the Croud Meadow.
The English-born Ghanaian midfielder marked his 12th appearance of the season with an assist, helping his side secure all three points in Round 43.
Starting the match, Asamoah delivered a composed performance, playing 83 minutes and contributing to the only goal of the game in the 71st minute.
After a quick counter-attack, he threaded a perfect pass to Dale Taylor, who finished confidently from close range to give Wigan the lead. This assist marks Asamoah’s first of the season, adding to the goal he scored earlier in the campaign.
Wigan slightly edged possession with 51%, and despite both teams creating one big chance each, it was the Latics who made theirs count. With the win, Wigan extended their strong record against Shrewsbury, now boasting 9 victories from 13 meetings.
Next, Wigan will look to build on this momentum when they face Rotherham United on April 21st.
