Ghanaian forward Kwame Opoku is attracting serious interest from several clubs in the South African Premier League as the summer transfer window draws near, according to reports.
The former Black Stars attacker made a high-profile return to Asante Kotoko in December 2024, signing a two-and-a-half-year deal in a bid to reignite his career. Since his return, he has made a strong impression—netting six goals and providing one assist in just 13 Ghana Premier League appearances.
Opoku initially left Kotoko during the 2020/21 season, securing a move to USM Alger in Algeria. However, his time in North Africa didn’t go as planned, prompting a comeback to the Porcupine Warriors just four months ago.
Despite his short stint back in Kumasi, the 25-year-old has already caught the eye of clubs in South Africa, who are currently scouting players to strengthen their squads ahead of the new season.
A source close to the player told Africasoccer.com that “Opoku’s representatives are seeking for an opportunity for the forward to play for one of the top three clubs in South Africa.”
While no formal offers have been tabled yet, the interest is strong and growing. There’s belief among his camp that “the forward can, however, join the right club and offer his full potential in the top-flight.”
With the window fast approaching, Opoku’s future remains a key talking point, and Kotoko may soon face a tough decision as South African giants look to swoop in for the talented attacker.
