Former Ghana FA Executive Council member Sammy Anim Addo has called for legendary striker Asamoah Gyan to be appointed as the Black Stars’ striker coach to help address the team’s persistent goalscoring problems.

Speaking to Peace FM, as monitored by Ghanasoccernet.com, Anim Addo said Gyan’s deep understanding of attacking football would be invaluable for players like Antoine Semenyo, Inaki Williams, and the next generation of Ghanaian strikers.

“Babyjet Asamoah Gyan, his knowledge and understanding in football and how he can see that this ball will move from here to there a goal will come, and his experience all these years with his UEFA coaching — I feel if we want to use him well in the national team, it can even transfer to the other national teams. Let’s give him that position,” he said.

Anim Addo stressed that Gyan’s presence in the Black Stars camp would inspire the current crop of strikers. “When Black Stars is going to face any team, he is there in the Black Stars camp. If you look at players like Semenyo, Inaki, and other young strikers coming up, they will tell you, ‘I look up to Asamoah Gyan.’ So imagine that Asamoah Gyan is inspiring them and teaching them what movements to make because goalscoring — it is your movement, how you will stand — it is called the art of scoring. It is an art,” he explained.

He further highlighted Gyan’s versatility in front of goal, saying, “This is somebody who has mastered it. He scores with his head, his right leg, and his left. So if he teaches you, the benefit Ghana will get is a lot because we can play a match, and goalscoring becomes very difficult.”

Anim Addo also pointed out the challenges teams face in African football when it comes to scoring goals, making Gyan’s involvement even more crucial. “The African terrain — you know that sometimes you can play a match and even scoring one goal becomes difficult. So if you have someone who will teach, and all the other players will learn, when there is a chance, they can all score — defenders, strikers — because when he is doing the session, he will do it for the entire team. I think it will help Ghana in so many ways. He deserves it very much because of what he has done for Ghana,” he concluded.
