President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has confirmed that a new broadcasting partner for the Ghana Premier League will soon be announced, following the termination of the FA’s deal with Chinese media company StarTimes.

The GFA officially ended its partnership with StarTimes at the close of the 2023/24 season, citing unpaid arrears amounting to $950,000. The decision leaves both the Premier League and the FA Cup without an official broadcaster for the upcoming season.

Speaking in an interview with GhOne TV, Mr. Okraku expressed optimism about the future of domestic football broadcasting, stressing that Ghana’s top-flight league remains an attractive and marketable product.

“Our Premier League is interesting enough to attract TV partners, and we will announce a new partner soon,” he stated.

Shedding light on the breakdown of the StarTimes deal, Mr. Okraku added, “We have ended our partnership with StarTimes. They owe the GFA $950,000.”

In the absence of an official broadcast partner, several local television stations — including Adom TV, Net2 TV, Metro TV, Original TV, and Globe TV — have stepped in to provide coverage of Ghana Premier League and FA Cup matches.

The GFA is expected to unveil the new media rights partner ahead of the 2024/25 football season.
