“Hard work, dedication and attitude did the magic for us” — Asante Kotoko coach Karim Zito lauds players after Hearts of Oak win

Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito has attributed his side’s memorable 1–0 victory over arch-rivals Hearts of Oak to the players’ hard work, discipline, and strong mentality in Sunday’s Super Clash at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The Porcupine Warriors traveled to the capital for the much-anticipated fixture and delivered a commanding performance, edging their fiercest rivals in the first meeting of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.

In a tightly contested encounter that lived up to its billing, Guinean forward Morifing Donzo emerged as the match-winner, scoring the only goal of the game to secure all three points for Kotoko.

Reflecting on the victory, Coach Zito acknowledged the difficulty of the contest but praised his players for their focus and resilience.

“Everybody knows Hearts and Kotoko — how difficult this game always is,” Zito told reporters. “You saw the supporters today; everyone is happy. It was tough, but the mindset was there to win because we knew this result would help us towards our objective.”

The experienced coach emphasized that the team’s success was built on character and effort rather than luck.

“Hard work, dedication, and attitude did the magic for us,” Zito stressed. “The players gave everything on the pitch, and that’s what made the difference.”

He also used the moment to appeal for continued patience and support from the club’s passionate fanbase.

“I plead with the fans to be patient with the players. We are building something strong, and with time, Asante Kotoko will be back in Africa soon.”

The win extends Kotoko’s unbeaten run to six matches this season, keeping them within reach of the top spot. With three games in hand, the Reds are well-positioned in the title race as they aim to reclaim domestic glory and secure a return to continental competition.
