Ghana international Antoine Semenyo has weighed in on football’s long-running Greatest of All Time (GOAT) debate, firmly siding with Lionel Messi ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo after more than two decades of rivalry between the two global icons.
The in-form AFC Bournemouth forward acknowledged the remarkable achievements of the Portuguese superstar but made it clear that, in his view, the former Barcelona talisman stands above his longtime rival.
The debate over football’s greatest player shows no signs of fading, with Messi holding a clear edge in individual accolades after winning a record eight Ballon d’Or titles, compared to Ronaldo’s five. Both players have enjoyed extraordinary success at club level, but Messi also boasts a FIFA World Cup triumph with Argentina — a title that has eluded Ronaldo with Portugal.
Speaking candidly, Semenyo left no room for doubt about his preference.
“Messi by a hundred percent. I’ll never downplay what Ronaldo has achieved, but for me personally, I’m a Messi fan,” he said.
Semenyo’s comments come at a time when he is enjoying a standout campaign with Bournemouth. The Black Stars forward has been one of the Cherries’ most influential performers this season, scoring eight Premier League goals and registering three assists so far.
