Henry Asante Twum, Communication Director of the Ghana Football Association, has confirmed they are in talks with series of countries for a possible pre-World Cup friendly in March with Austria most likely to be the opponent.
Otto Addo’s side haven’t played a game since their last matches against Japan and South Korea in the Kirin Challenge Cup tournament in November.
With preparations already in place towards the 2026 FIFA World Cup which is six months away from now, the Ghana FA have already secured a high profile friendly against four-time world champions Germany in March.
Addo hopes to get another good team to assess his team’s weakness and strenght before he annpounces the final squad for the mundial on June 1.
Speaking on Accra-based Sporty FM, Henry Asante confirmed there will be another friendly for Ghana, first with Austria likely to be the opponents.
“Austria is one of the teams we are talking to to play after the Germany friendly game, and hopefully, when the contract is signed, we will make it official to the public.” he said.
The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L alongside 1966 champions England, 2018 finalists Croatia and Panama, with the World Cup set to commence on June 11, 2026
