New St Johnstone forward Alfie Agyeman believes the experience he gained from winning the Scottish Championship with Falkirk can help his new club as they fight through a demanding season.
Speaking after his debut, the on-loan attacker admitted that the league is never easy and that setbacks are part of the journey.
“I know how tough this league is. Everybody can beat everybody,” Agyeman said.
He explained that even during Falkirk’s title-winning campaign, there were difficult moments.
“There were times last season with Falkirk when we had to bounce back from defeats. We certainly didn’t get everything our own way.”
Agyeman believes St Johnstone are currently in a challenging phase, but he is confident the team can respond positively.
“This is a hard period of the season, and the big games and big challenges will keep coming every week. Hopefully my experience from last season will help.”
He stressed the importance of staying strong during both good and bad times.
“I know there will be tough times as well as good times and we need to rise to the challenge. Then in the end, we have to make sure we are the team who deserves to be top.”
The forward made his first appearance for St Johnstone on the right side of attack and, although the result did not go his way, he remained focused.
“Of course, I’m disappointed with the result, but we’ll go again and keep working.”
Agyeman said he is already starting to connect with his teammates.
“I feel that I’m already building an understanding with my team-mates from our training sessions and now a game.”
He added that match fitness and sharpness will come with time.
“I need to get up to speed as quickly as possible. The movements I need to make and the spaces I go into will improve as I play more games.”
Describing St Johnstone as a big club, Agyeman made his intentions clear.
“This is a big club, and I want to show what I’m capable of. There’s a great squad here.”
He also highlighted his flexibility as a player.
“I think I’m a versatile player and I can play in different positions. Wherever the manager wants me to play, I’ll be ready to do my job.”
