Ghanaian midfielder Daniel Afriyie continued his impressive run in Switzerland by scoring an early goal to inspire Aarau to a hard-fought 2-1 away victory over Yverdon in the Swiss Challenge League.
Afriyie opened the scoring just four minutes into the contest, reacting quickest inside the box to convert Aarau’s first meaningful attack and silence the home crowd at the Stade Municipal. His early strike set the platform for a disciplined display from the visitors, who remained compact defensively and dangerous on the counter-attack.
Yverdon fought back after the interval, drawing level through Mauro Rodrigues in the 55th minute as pressure mounted on Aarau. However, the visitors held their nerve and refused to settle for a point.
In dramatic fashion, Dorian Derbaci struck deep into stoppage time, netting the winner in the 90+3 minute to seal all three points for Aarau.
Afriyie’s latest goal takes his 2025/26 Challenge League record to seven goals and four assists in 19 appearances, further highlighting his growing influence as one of Aarau’s key attacking threats.
Aarau will now shift their attention to their next league assignment, welcoming Wil on Saturday, February 7, as they look to build momentum in front of their home supporters.
