Former Sports Minister Edwin Nii Lante Vanderpuye has urged the Ghana Football Association to include English-born players, including Callum Hudson-Odoi and Josh Acheampong, in the Black Stars squad for the 2026 World Cup.
Vanderpuye highlighted that players like Hudson-Odoi, Acheampong, and Rak-Sakyi could provide Ghana with a psychological advantage, especially in their group stage clash against England. He noted that familiarity with English players could influence match dynamics and boost the team’s confidence.
Ghana, drawn in Group L with Panama, England, and Croatia, will start their campaign against Panama on June 17, face England on June 23, and play Croatia on June 27 in the tournament co-hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Vanderpuye emphasized that having these players in the squad would strengthen Ghana’s chances and give the Black Stars an edge in crucial matches.
