“I leave as a happy man and a club legend” – Karim Zito reflects on Kotoko exit

Former Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito has looked back on his departure from the club with pride, insisting his time with the Porcupine Warriors was both successful and deeply fulfilling.

Speaking after stepping down from his role, Zito disclosed that his resignation came after talks with the club’s management. Despite leaving his post, the experienced tactician stressed that he walks away satisfied with his impact and achievements at the Kumasi-based giants.

In an interview with Asempa FM, Zito said:

“I resigned from my position after a meeting with management, but I am a happy man. I remain a legend of the club.”

Zito was appointed head coach last year and took charge of 37 competitive matches, recording an impressive 19 wins, 11 draws, and just seven defeats. His team was defensively solid, keeping 19 clean sheets, conceding 31 goals, and scoring 50 goals across all competitions.

His reign was highlighted by remarkable success in cup competitions. Under his leadership, Asante Kotoko lifted four major trophies — the MTN FA Cup, Ghana Super Cup, Toyota Cup in South Africa, and the President’s Cup — making his spell one of the most productive in the club’s recent history.

Zito also reserved special praise for the club’s supporters, thanking them for their unwavering backing throughout his short stay.

“I want to thank Asante Kotoko supporters for their support. I coached the club for barely one year and was able to win four trophies for the team,” he added.

Although his tenure was brief, Zito’s exit marks the end of a chapter defined by discipline, silverware, and tangible progress. As he departs, the former Kotoko boss believes his legacy will endure, having left the club stronger and more successful than he found it.
