Kofi Adams has indicated that he would not be shocked if Andre Ayew secures a place in Ghana’s squad for the next FIFA World Cup, stating that the seasoned forward remains active and still has value to add to the national team.

The Minister for Sports and Recreation made the remarks during an interview, where he addressed ongoing discussions about Ayew’s future with the Black Stars. He noted that as long as the former captain continues to compete at club level and has not officially retired, he cannot be ruled out of contention.

“I think he is picking up also. Once he has not retired and still playing actively, I won’t be surprised to see him in the Black Stars squad for the World Cup,” Adams stated.

While expressing openness to the possibility of Ayew’s return, the Minister emphasized that the authority to select players lies entirely with the technical team.

“However, it is the responsibility of the coach to decide whether to invite him or not,” he added.

Ayew, Ghana’s most capped player and a former skipper of the Black Stars, has been a dominant figure in the national setup for over a decade. He has featured in several Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and represented Ghana on the world stage at the FIFA World Cup, building a reputation for leadership and experience.

Over the years, his presence in the squad has often been viewed as steadying and influential, particularly during periods of transition when younger players were being introduced into the team.

At 36, Ayew has faced stiff competition from emerging talents, sparking debate among supporters and analysts about his long-term role in the national team. Despite that, his recent club form appears to have revived conversations about a potential return to the global stage.

Since joining during the winter transfer window, the experienced attacker has made eight appearances in the Dutch Eredivisie, delivering performances that have drawn attention.

With Ghana working towards securing qualification and assembling a strong squad for the Mundial, Ayew’s possible inclusion is expected to remain a hot topic in the coming months. Whether he makes the final list or not will ultimately depend on the head coach’s plans, but for now, the Sports Minister’s comments have reignited national debate over the veteran forward’s World Cup prospects.
