Ghanaian forward Prince-Osei Owusu opened his scoring account for the 2026 Major League Soccer season after finding the net in CF Montréal’s emphatic 3–0 away victory over the New York Red Bulls.

The Black Stars striker gave the Canadian side a dream start when he calmly converted a penalty in the 8th minute, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way to hand Montréal an early lead. The goal marked Owusu’s first of the season after three appearances in the MLS campaign.

Montréal continued to dominate the game and doubled their advantage just before halftime through Venezuelan midfielder Wikelman Carmona, who reacted quickly to a loose ball inside the penalty area and finished neatly to put the visitors in a strong position going into the break.

The away side maintained their momentum in the second half and sealed the victory in the 68th minute, with Carmona scoring again to complete his brace and put the match beyond reach for the hosts.

Owusu played an important role in Montréal’s attacking play before being substituted in the 61st minute for Mexican forward Daniel Ríos.

The 29-year-old Ghanaian striker will be hoping his first goal of the campaign sparks a strong run of form as CF Montréal aim to maintain their impressive start to the 2026 MLS season.

For Owusu, the goal not only boosts his confidence but also strengthens his case as one of the Ghanaian players abroad making an impact early in the season.
