Andre Ayew says he is relieved after scoring his first goal for NAC Breda, ending a nine-match wait since joining the Dutch club as a free agent in January.
The 36-year-old Ghana national football team forward scored with a powerful header in Breda’s thrilling 3–3 draw against Feyenoord, a match that also saw fellow Ghanaian Kamal Sowah get on the scoresheet.
Speaking after the game, Ayew admitted scoring was important but insisted he always believed the goal would come.
“I knew it was going to come. As an attacking player it’s important to score, but sometimes you have to stay patient and calm,” he said.
Ayew’s return to scoring form comes at a crucial time as Otto Addo prepares to name Ghana’s squad for upcoming international friendlies against Austria national football team and Germany national football team later this month.
