American club Spokane Velocity FC have confirmed the signing of Ghanaian defender Moses Mensah as the team continues preparations for the upcoming USL League One campaign.

The 26-year-old left-back joins the club ahead of the 2026 season, pending league and federation approval, after recently leaving South Georgia Tormenta FC following the club’s closure.

Mensah arrives with significant experience in American football, having spent the previous three seasons with Birmingham Legion FC in the USL Championship. Between 2023 and 2025, he made 75 appearances for the side and logged more than 4,000 minutes on the pitch.

The Ghanaian defender delivered one of his standout seasons in 2024, finishing joint-fourth in assists at Birmingham with three. He also demonstrated strong defensive ability throughout the campaign, recording 180 defensive duels and winning 104 of them.

Before launching his professional career in the United States, Mensah was selected by Real Salt Lake with the 74th overall pick in the MLS SuperDraft in 2023 following an impressive college career.

He enjoyed a highly successful period at Campbell University, where he played from 2019 to 2022 and earned All-Conference First Team recognition in each of his four seasons. During that time, he was also named Big South Freshman of the Year in 2019 and later crowned Big South Defender of the Year.

While in college, Mensah gained additional competitive experience in USL League Two, featuring for Des Moines Menace in 2021 and helping the team secure the league championship after making nine appearances. He also spent time with One Knoxville SC in 2022.

The defender began his football journey in Ghana with WA All Stars, where he was part of the squad that won the Ghana Premier League title in 2016.

Reacting to the signing, Spokane Velocity head coach Leigh Veidman praised Mensah’s qualities and experience, describing him as a valuable addition to the team’s defensive unit.

“Moses is a strong addition to our roster. After spending the last three years in the USL Championship, he brings great experience, depth and quality to our backline,” Veidman said.

“His strong one-versus-one ability and attacking mindset fit exactly what we are looking for in our full-backs.”

Mensah is expected to make his debut for Spokane Velocity when the club hosts Union Omaha at ONE Spokane Stadium on March 15.
