GPL: Medeama coach Ibrahim Tanko calls for strong response after losing top spot

Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko has issued a strong rallying call to his players, urging them to respond with determination after slipping from the top of the Ghana Premier League table following a 2-1 defeat to Dreams FC.

The Tarkwa-based side’s loss at the Tuba Astroturf on matchday 26 opened the door for Bibiani GoldStars to climb into first place, intensifying the title race as the season enters its decisive phase.

Despite the setback, Tanko remains confident his side can bounce back, stressing that the championship is still within reach with eight matches left to play.

“Now our focus shifts to the next game. We must keep working hard and ensure we secure maximum points. With eight matches remaining, we will prepare thoroughly and approach each one with determination,” Tanko said.

Reflecting on the defeat, the former Ghana international admitted his team paid the price for a sluggish start, as Dreams FC took control of the early exchanges.

“We started very slowly, and Dreams FC were the better side in the opening 20 minutes. In the second half, we dominated play and scored a beautiful goal, but unfortunately, time was not on our side,” he explained.

Medeama showed improved intensity after the break and managed to pull one back with a well-worked goal, but their early lapse ultimately proved costly.

With the title race now finely poised, Tanko’s message is clear—his side must quickly regroup and show resilience in the final stretch of the campaign. As the pressure mounts, Medeama remain firmly in contention, with every remaining fixture set to play a crucial role in determining the destination of the league trophy.
