Francis Abu has expressed strong confidence in making Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite recovering from a serious leg injury that once threatened his chances.
The Black Stars midfielder, who suffered a double fracture during Ghana’s defeat to Japan in November 2025, has indicated that his rehabilitation is progressing steadily and positively. Initial fears suggested he could miss the global tournament, but the 24-year-old now believes otherwise.
He explained that consistent medical evaluations and improvements in training have boosted his hopes of returning to full fitness in time. Abu further noted that he has resumed light ball work and is gradually advancing towards full team training.
During a recent visit to the Black Stars camp in Stuttgart ahead of their international friendly against Germany, the France-based player shared that he remains in good condition and focused on his recovery journey.
He also highlighted the importance of the support he received from teammates during his difficult period, stating that their encouragement played a key role in keeping him motivated. His visit to the team, he added, was a way of showing appreciation and solidarity.
Looking ahead, Abu remains determined to complete his recovery and secure a place in coach Otto Addo’s final squad for the tournament, scheduled for June and July 2026.
