Hohoe United have reportedly refused to refund the GH¢1 million upfront payment received from Adesa Production following their withdrawal from the Ghana Premier League (GPL), insisting they have already fulfilled parts of their contractual obligations.
According to a report by Kessben Sports, the club maintains that although they are no longer participating in the league, they are not in breach of agreement as some of their matches were already broadcast live as part of the arrangement.
Hohoe United argue that the deal with Adesa Production was not entirely dependent on full participation in the league season, but also on media and broadcast commitments which they believe were partially met before their exit.
Because of this, the club insists there is no basis for a refund of the GH¢1 million paid upfront, stressing that they have “held up their end of the deal” through the televised matches that were completed.
The situation now raises questions about the contractual terms surrounding broadcast rights and participation agreements in Ghana football, especially in cases where a club withdraws from a competition after financial commitments have already been made.
As it stands, the disagreement between Hohoe United and Adesa Production could potentially escalate if both sides fail to reach a mutual understanding on how the funds and obligations should be handled following the club’s GPL withdrawal.
