The Football Association, in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, will participate in a national Islamic prayer session on Friday, May 15, 2026, in support of the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The solemn gathering, which will be led by the National Chief Imam, His Eminence, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, is scheduled to take place at the National Mosque in Kanda, Accra, at 2pm
The prayer session forms part of nationwide efforts to seek divine guidance, protection and success for Ghana’s senior national team as preparations intensify for football’s biggest global stage.
President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku will lead the GFA delegation, which is expected to include members of the Black Stars Management Committee, Executive Council members, Black Stars backroom staff, partners, sponsors and other key football stakeholders.
On the government side, Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, will head the Ministry’s delegation as the country collectively rallies behind the Black Stars ahead of the tournament, which will be staged across North America.
The national prayer session follows a courtesy visit by members of the Black Stars Management Committee to the National Chief Imam earlier this week, where they sought spiritual guidance and blessings for the team ahead of Ghana’s participation in the global football spectacle.
In a significant gesture of solidarity, the revered Islamic cleric has directed that Friday’s Jumu’ah prayers across the country be dedicated to the Black Stars. Regional Imams have received directives to incorporate special prayers for the team in mosques nationwide, creating a collective moment of reflection and hope for Ghana’s World Cup aspirations.
With anticipation steadily building, preparations for the tournament continue to gather momentum amid growing calls for nationwide support behind the Black Stars.
The team faces an exciting group-stage journey, opening their campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, before taking on European giants England on June 23 in Boston and Croatia on June 27 in Philadelphia.
As the countdown to the World Cup continues, Friday’s national Islamic prayer session is expected to serve as a powerful moment of unity, faith, and national encouragement- reinforcing the collective belief and support of Ghanaians as the Black Stars prepare to represent the nation on the world stage.
