The Ghana Football Association, in partnership with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, will lead a national interdenominational thanksgiving and prayer service on Sunday, May 17, 2026, in a solemn act of faith, reflection and national unity.

The service, scheduled for 3 pm. at All Saints Anglican Church in Adabraka, will bring together football administrators, government officials, corporate partners, clergy, and stakeholders to seek divine guidance and blessings for Ghana football –  particularly the Black Starsahead of the global football showpiece in North America.

President of the GFA and Second Vice-President of the Confederation of African Football, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, will lead the football governing body’s delegation, alongside Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams. Also expected in attendance are members of the GFA Executive Council, GFA staff, government representatives, sponsors, partners and key football stakeholders.

The interdenominational gathering comes at a defining moment for Ghana football, following what has been an encouraging and achievement-filled period across multiple national teams and domestic competitions. Central to the service will be prayers for the Black Stars following their qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, as the nation prepares to rally behind the senior national team on football’s biggest stage.

The service will also celebrate and seek continued divine favour for the Black Princesses, who have secured qualification to an impressive eighth consecutive FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup – a remarkable testament to the country’s continued progress in women’s football.

Attention will also turn to the Black Starlets and their ongoing campaign at the CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations, as well as the qualifying journey of the Black Maidens for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.

In addition, the service will offer thanksgiving for the outstanding achievement of Ghana’s national U-15 Girls team, who successfully defended the African Schools Football Championship title in Harare, Zimbabwe – further underscoring the country’s strength in youth football development.

Beyond the national teams, prayers and gratitude will also be extended for the smooth and successful organisation of domestic football competitions across the country, including the Premier League, Women’s Premier League, Division One League, Division Two League and Colts football – all of which continue to play a critical role in nurturing talent and strengthening the football ecosystem.

The spiritual service will be led by Rt Reverend Dr Daniel Sylvanus Torto, the Anglican Bishop of Accra, who will deliver the sermon. He will be joined by an esteemed clergy contingent, including Rt Reverend George K. Neequaye, Anglican Bishop of Tema; Very Reverend Samuel Lamptey, Dean of the Cathedral Church of the Most Holy Trinity; Venerable Vincent Attoh, Accra Northwest Archdeacon; Canon Samuel Offei Ankrah, Parish Priest of All Saints Anglican Church; Reverend Father Isaac Otoo of St. Andrew Anglican Church, Achimota; Reverend Father Ebenezer Petu-Stiles, Priest Assisting at All Saints Anglican Church; and Reverend Clement Ani Obeng Jnr, Deacon Assisting at All Saints Anglican Church.
