Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, has issued a passionate call for Ghanaians to rally behind the Black Stars as the National team prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The respected Health administrator and former Deputy Minister of Health expressed immense joy following Ghana’s qualification for the 23rd edition of football’s biggest spectacle, describing the achievement as a proud moment for the nation.
Speaking exclusively to SportsworldGhana, Dr. Bampoe revealed his enduring affection for the Black Stars and his excitement whenever the team embarks on the journey to major international tournaments.”I was very happy when Ghana secured qualification for the 2026 World Cup. I must admit I follow the Black Stars, especially during the run to major tournaments,” he said.
Beyond football, Dr. Bampoe highlighted the powerful relationship between sports and public health, stressing that sporting activities remain a vital tool in promoting healthier lifestyles and national well-being.
His comments come on the back of the NHIA’s support for Ghana’s National Armwrestling team during the 15th African Armwrestling Championship hosted in Ghana last month, a demonstration of the Authority’s commitment to sports development and health promotion.”We are strongly supporting His Excellency the President’s Free Primary Healthcare Programme, which includes health promotion. Under this, we will continue to support sports initiatives whenever and wherever our mandate and budget allows us to do so,” he stated.
With the World Cup fast approaching, Dr. Bampoe expressed confidence in the Black Stars’ ability to make a meaningful impact on the global stage. He urged Ghanaians to put aside their differences and unite behind the national team, emphasizing the role football plays in fostering national cohesion.
“Let us all throw our weight and support behind the Black Stars. They have done well so far, and have the potential to do even better. I’ll urge the youth to exercise restraint and moderation in all that you do in your support,” he urged.
According to the NHIA boss, the Black Stars remain one of Ghana’s greatest symbols of unity, capable of bringing together millions of citizens under a common national cause.
“They have the power to unite us as Ghanaians, and I’m looking forward to great success in their campaign,” the dynamic health administrator further stated.
The Black Stars will commence their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto before taking on England and Croatia in their remaining Group D encounters as they seek to write another memorable chapter in Ghana’s football history.
