Newly promoted Ghana Premier League side Port City FC have strengthened their technical bench with the appointment of former Asante Kotoko midfielder Jordan Opoku as assistant coach ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The 42-year-old joins the club’s coaching staff as deputy to head coach Christopher Ennin, who recently took charge of the ambitious top-flight newcomers.
Opoku’s arrival is expected to add valuable experience and tactical insight to Port City’s backroom team as the club prepares for its historic first campaign in the Ghana Premier League.
A familiar figure in Ghanaian football, Opoku enjoyed a distinguished playing career that included a spell with Asante Kotoko before transitioning into coaching after retirement.
He has since built his reputation on the touchline, most notably serving as assistant coach at WAFA SC, where he played a key role in developing young talent and helping the club compete in the Ghana Premier League.
Port City believe his knowledge of the domestic game and coaching experience will be crucial as they seek to establish themselves among Ghana’s elite clubs following promotion from Division One.
The club has been active in strengthening both its playing squad and technical department during the off-season, underlining its determination to avoid an immediate return to the second tier.
With pre-season preparations already underway, Opoku will work closely with Christopher Ennin to build a competitive squad capable of making a strong impression in the club’s maiden Ghana Premier League campaign.
His appointment is the latest signal of Port City’s ambition as they continue preparations for life in the top flight, where they hope to compete with the country’s established football powerhouses.
