Asante Kotoko head coach Eric Tinkler has confessed that his side made the game difficult for themselves despite securing a 2-1 victory over Heart of Lions in match-day 2 of the Ghana Premier League over the weekend.
Two goals in each by new arrivals Emmanuel Mamah and Isaac Opoku Agyemang were enough to hand them all three points
The Porcupine Warriors recorded their first win of the season at the Baba Yara Stadium but were made to work hard for the three points, with Heart of Lions creating several opportunities during the encounter.
Tinkler believes Kotoko managed the game well and also created enough chances, but acknowledged that there is still significant work to be done defensively.
“We made things very difficult for ourselves. You can see Heart of Lions are a good team; they created chances, but we managed the game, and we created our chances. Overall, there is still a lot of work we have to do defensively. We struggled even when we played against 10 men,” Tinkler said after the match.
The Kotoko coach admitted that his team did not produce their best performance but was pleased to secure all three points as they begin to build momentum in the new campaign.
“Today we won ugly, but we will take the three points and move on,” Tinkler added.
Kotoko will now turn their attention to their next league fixture against FC Samartex in Samreboi as they look to build on their first victory of the season.
