Chief Executive Officer of Databank, Kojo Addae Mensah, believes Ignatius Osei-Fosu would have been a strong candidate to take over as Asante Kotoko head coach, describing the young Ghanaian tactician as an ideal option for the club.
His comments come after the Porcupine Warriors appointed South African coach Eric Tinkler as their new head coach ahead of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.
Speaking on Luv FM, Addae Mensah argued that Kotoko’s pool of available Ghanaian coaching options had become limited, with many of the frequently mentioned names having already managed the club in previous years.
“Whoever you mention would be a recycle. All those who are more or less available would have worked with Kotoko before. Frimpong Manso is available and has worked with Kotoko before. Maxwell Konadu has worked with Kotoko before. Everybody you mention has been there before,” he said.
However, the Databank CEO believes Osei-Fosu represented a different option because of his recent exposure and development while working as assistant coach to Sudan national team head coach Kwesi Appiah.
“Of course, we could say we have run out of options. We don’t really have options. But I know Ignatius is working with Sudan, and I can bet that if we sit down and talk to Kwesi Appiah, he would allow us to have Ignatius,” he added.
Osei-Fosu, who has previously managed clubs including Medeama and Aduana FC, has built a reputation as one of Ghana’s promising young coaches and currently works closely with Appiah on the Sudan national team technical staff.
Addae Mensah believes the experience gained from that partnership would have prepared Osei-Fosu for the demands of leading a club of Kotoko’s size and expectations.
“I would have considered Ignatius, especially considering his exposure and having worked with Kwesi for so long,” he stated.
Osei-Fosu had previously admitted that he would be open to managing Asante Kotoko if the opportunity came at the right time, but stressed that the circumstances would have to be suitable.
Meanwhile, Eric Tinkler has begun preparations for the new season after taking charge of the Porcupine Warriors, with Kotoko targeting a strong challenge for the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League title.
