Asante Kotoko Board Chairman James Osei Brown has challenged newly appointed head coach Eric Tinkler to guide the club to Ghana Premier League success and build a team capable of competing at the highest level.
The South African coach was recently appointed on a long-term contract as the Porcupine Warriors begin a new chapter ahead of the 2026/27 football season.
Speaking during an official address, Mr Brown assured Tinkler of the club’s full support but made it clear that the primary objective is to reclaim the league title.
“The expectation is that we want you to win us the league and then take us to where all of us want us to be,” Brown said.
“You have our full support,” he added.
Tinkler arrives at Kotoko with extensive coaching experience, having previously managed some of South Africa’s biggest clubs, including Orlando Pirates, SuperSport United, Cape Town City, Maritzburg United and Bidvest Wits.
During his managerial career, he guided Orlando Pirates to the CAF Champions League final and led SuperSport United to the CAF Confederation Cup final, while also winning domestic honours such as the MTN8 and Telkom Knockout trophies.
Before moving into coaching, Tinkler enjoyed a successful playing career, captaining South Africa and earning 48 international appearances.
He represented Bafana Bafana at the 1998 FIFA World Cup and was part of the squad that won the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations. At club level, he featured in England, Italy and Portugal, playing for clubs including Barnsley and Cagliari.
The new Kotoko boss has already begun work with the team after the club opened its pre-season camp as preparations intensify for the upcoming campaign.
The 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season is scheduled to begin on the weekend of September 4–7, 2026, with Kotoko aiming to challenge for the title and restore their dominance in Ghanaian football.
