Former Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has revealed that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) never gave him an official reason for terminating his contract, months after bringing his second spell in charge of the national team to an end.

Speaking in an interview with German football magazine 11Freunde, Addo admitted he remains unaware of the reasons behind his dismissal and chose not to seek an explanation from the football governing body.

“Honestly, I still haven’t been given a reason for my sacking to this day—and honestly, I didn’t ask either,” Addo said.

The 51-year-old disclosed that his relationship with the GFA leadership was marked by constant discussions and uncertainty, leaving him with the feeling that his position was never truly secure.

“There was, of course, a lot of back-and-forth between me, our federation president and the board as well. It just felt like I could have been sacked after just one month,” he added.

Addo’s comments offer fresh insight into the challenges he faced behind the scenes during his second stint as Black Stars head coach.

His tenure came under intense pressure after Ghana failed to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, ending the country’s 21-year streak of consecutive appearances at the continental tournament.

Despite that setback, Addo successfully guided the Black Stars to qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. However, the GFA dismissed him on March 31, 2026, following a run of four consecutive defeats in international friendlies, including a 2-1 loss to Germany.

His departure came just 72 days before the start of the World Cup, with the Ghana Football Association appointing experienced Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz as his successor.

Following his exit, Addo joined FIFA’s Technical Study Group during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but his latest remarks have shed new light on the circumstances surrounding the end of his tenure with the Black Stars.
