Swedish-born Ghanaian winger Kofi Fosuhene Asare has completed a return to Swedish football after joining Trelleborgs FF from Lithuanian outfit FK Banga Gargždai on a deal running until the end of the 2027 season.
The 24-year-old returns to familiar surroundings after a brief spell in Lithuania, bringing valuable experience from Sweden, Finland and the Baltic region as Trelleborgs continue to strengthen their squad.
Asare has previously featured for Djurgårdens IF, Landskrona BoIS, Sandvikens IF, IFK Tumba and Finnish side FC Inter Turku, establishing himself as a versatile attacker capable of playing across the frontline.
He enjoyed a breakthrough 2023 Superettan campaign, registering six goals and five assists in his debut season while earning a nomination for the league’s Young Player of the Year award. Across his Superettan career, he has made 67 appearances, scoring 13 goals and providing eight assists.
Speaking after completing the move, Asare expressed his excitement about returning to Sweden.
“It feels very good to have signed for Trelleborgs FF and I’m really looking forward to getting started with the team. It feels like Trelleborg is the right environment for me right now.”
The winger also reflected on his time abroad, describing it as an important period in his personal and professional development.
“It has been a learning period that has developed me both as a footballer and a person. I have become more independent, learned to handle new challenges and gained experiences that I will benefit from for the rest of my career.”
Looking ahead, Asare is determined to make an immediate impact with his new club.
“I want to contribute with speed, hard work and energy. I like to challenge one-on-one and create goal-scoring opportunities for myself and my teammates. The team has had a very strong season, and I will do everything to help us win more matches and hopefully secure promotion.”
Trelleborgs head coach Andreas Granqvist welcomed the signing, praising the Ghanaian’s versatility and proven quality.
“The season is long, and we need to be well equipped to continue achieving good results. Kofi can play in all offensive positions and has qualities that complement our squad. He has shown his ability at a higher level in Sweden before, and I look forward to seeing those performances again in our shirt.”
Asare will now be aiming to rediscover the form that made him one of the Superettan’s most exciting young attackers and help Trelleborgs push for promotion in the 2026 campaign.
