Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council member Nana Oduro Sarfo believes the decision to part ways with Otto Addo and appoint Carlos Queiroz as Black Stars head coach has delivered positive results.
The GFA official explained that Queiroz brought a different level of experience, authority and connection with the players, which was evident during Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign.
According to Oduro Sarfo, the Portuguese coach quickly earned the respect of the squad despite having limited time to prepare the team before the tournament.
“The decision to sack Otto Addo and appoint Carlos Queiroz has paid off. If you look at Queiroz’s relationship with the players, the respect they have for him is different,” he said.
Queiroz replaced Addo shortly before the World Cup and was tasked with preparing Ghana for a difficult Group L campaign against Panama, England and Croatia.
Oduro Sarfo praised the coach’s tactical approach, particularly Ghana’s opening match against Panama, where the Black Stars secured a crucial victory that helped them progress beyond the group stage.
“We played four matches at the World Cup, and everyone could see the difference. We saw the game plan against Panama, and I believe England will be disappointed they couldn’t score against Ghana.”
The GFA official added that Queiroz’s experience was vital in creating a competitive team despite the limited preparation period.
“Carlos Queiroz had no choice but to come up with a game plan because he had very little time after taking over.”
Ghana eventually advanced from the group stage under Queiroz before exiting the tournament in the knockout rounds. Oduro Sarfo believes the team’s performances demonstrated the immediate impact of the Portuguese coach’s leadership and tactical organisation.
