Ghana international Abdul Mumin has emerged as a transfer target for Spanish La Liga side Girona FC following his departure from fellow top-flight club Rayo Vallecano during the summer transfer window.
The 28-year-old centre-back became a free agent on July 1, 2026, bringing an end to a successful four-year spell with Rayo Vallecano after joining the Madrid-based outfit from Portuguese side Vitória Guimarães in September 2022.
Despite no formal agreement being reached, Girona are reportedly monitoring the experienced defender as they seek to reinforce their backline ahead of the 2026/27 La Liga season.
Mumin established himself as one of Rayo Vallecano’s most dependable defenders during his time at the club. Across four seasons, he made 63 La Liga appearances, scoring three goals and providing one assist, while earning praise for his physical presence, aerial dominance, composure on the ball and ability to play out from the back.
Before his move to Spain, the former FC Nordsjælland defender enjoyed an impressive spell with Vitória Guimarães, where he featured in 51 Liga Portugal matches, further enhancing his reputation as one of Ghana’s top defensive exports in Europe.
Mumin’s 2025/26 season was interrupted by a serious anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury that kept him out of action for several months.
However, the defender made a remarkable recovery in time to earn a place in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, underlining both his resilience and the confidence the Black Stars technical team have in his abilities.
