South African Premier Soccer League side Polokwane City have completed the signing of Ghanaian goalkeeper Abdulai Iddrisu from Ethiopian Premier League outfit Negele Arsi Town FC.
The 29-year-old joins the South African club following a remarkable 2025/26 campaign in Ethiopia, where he established himself as one of the league’s finest goalkeepers and capped off the season by winning the prestigious Ethiopian Premier League Goalkeeper of the Season award.
Iddrisu was one of Negele Arsi Town’s standout performers, playing a crucial role in the club’s impressive campaign with a string of match-winning displays. His consistency between the posts, excellent reflexes, commanding presence in the penalty area and leadership helped make him one of the most reliable goalkeepers in the Ethiopian top flight.
During the 2025/26 Ethiopian Premier League season, Iddrisu featured in 30 league matches, keeping 14 clean sheets while conceding just 24 goals, making him one of the division’s best-performing goalkeepers.
His impressive performances earned him several Player of the Match awards and ultimately saw him crowned the league’s Goalkeeper of the Season, recognizing his outstanding consistency throughout the campaign.
Known for his exceptional shot-stopping ability, quick reflexes, aerial dominance and composure under pressure, Iddrisu arrives at Polokwane City with significant experience and is expected to compete immediately for the club’s number-one jersey.
The move to the PSL marks another important milestone in the Ghanaian goalkeeper’s career as he looks to build on his success in Ethiopia and establish himself in one of Africa’s most competitive leagues.
Polokwane City will be hoping Iddrisu’s experience and proven quality can strengthen their defensive unit as they prepare for the 2026/27 South African Premier Soccer League season.
