Ghanaian forward Kelvin Boateng scored for Austria Wien in their UEFA Conference League qualifier against Beitar Jerusalem on Thursday evening.
His 58th-minute strike helped the Austrian side fight back after falling two goals behind at the Generali Arena.
Beitar controlled the opening stages and took the lead in the 32nd minute through Omer Atzili. The visitors then appeared to take control when Johnbosco Samuel Kalu doubled their advantage shortly after half-time.
Austria Wien responded immediately, with Boateng reducing the deficit just two minutes later. The Ghanaian forward’s goal gave the hosts renewed energy and changed the momentum of a tense contest. He remained on the pitch until the 72nd minute, when Hasan Deshishku replaced him.
Austria eventually forced extra time, but neither team could find another goal. The tie finished 3-3 on aggregate after Beitar had won the first leg 2-1, sending the contest to a penalty shootout.
Austria Wien held their nerve from the spot, winning 4-2 to secure their place in the next round. Goalkeeper Samuel Sahin-Radlinger was named player of the match after producing an influential performance, while Boateng’s goal proved crucial in keeping his team alive.
