Coventry City manager Frank Lampard has praised Ghanaian midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi following his impressive start at the Championship club, describing the youngster as a talented player with the potential to build a successful career.
Yirenkyi made an encouraging debut for the Sky Blues during their pre-season clash with AS Monaco on Friday, August 14, contributing an assist as Coventry secured a 2-0 victory.
The 20-year-old Ghana international joined Coventry City from Danish side FC Nordsjaelland in a reported club-record transfer worth around $30 million, following his outstanding performances for the Black Stars at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Lampard revealed that Coventry had to convince Yirenkyi to choose the club despite interest from several teams across Europe. According to the former England international, the club’s long-term plans for the midfielder played an important role in securing his signature.
Lampard said Coventry have strong confidence in Yirenkyi’s abilities and believe the young midfielder can develop into a significant player for the club.
