Ghana international defender Abdul Mumin has officially joined Spanish La Liga side Girona FC on a free transfer, signing a three-year contract that will keep him at the club until June 2029.
The 28-year-old centre-back becomes the latest Ghanaian to continue his career in Spain, with Girona securing his services as they strengthen their defensive options ahead of the 2026/27 season.
Born in Accra on June 6, 1998, Mumin stands at 1.88 metres and has built a reputation as a strong and aggressive defender, particularly in aerial challenges and one-on-one defensive situations.
Mumin began his football journey at the Right to Dream Academy, where he developed before moving to Europe to pursue a professional career.
His early European experience came with Danish club FC Nordsjaelland, followed by a spell with Portuguese side Vitoria Guimaraes. He later moved to Spain in 2022 to join Rayo Vallecano, where he gradually established himself in the highly competitive La Liga.
During his time with Rayo Vallecano, Mumin made more than 60 official appearances, gaining valuable experience against some of the best attacking players and teams in Spanish football.
His previous experience in La Liga could prove important as he begins life at Girona, particularly as he already understands the pace, physical demands and tactical requirements of Spanish football.
At international level, Mumin made his senior debut for the Black Stars in June 2024 and has since remained part of Ghana’s national team setup.
He was also included in Ghana’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, further underlining his growing importance to the national team.
Girona will now look to Mumin’s physical presence, defensive experience and competitiveness to add greater depth and stability to their backline.
For the Ghanaian defender, the transfer represents another significant step in a European career that has taken him through Denmark, Portugal and Spain.
Mumin will now face the challenge of fighting for a regular starting position at Girona as he begins a fresh chapter in La Liga and looks to establish himself as a key figure in the club’s defensive plans.
The move also gives the Ghana international an opportunity to build on his previous experience in Spain while continuing his development at one of Europe’s most competitive football levels.
