Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director Henry Asante Twum has revealed that the GFA Council has backed the continuation of Carlos Queiroz as Black Stars head coach following an assessment of his performance.
According to Asante Twum, the council, which serves as the highest decision-making body of the GFA, believes the Portuguese coach should remain in charge of the senior national team.
“The council, which is the highest decision-making body, after assessing the performance of Coach Carlos Queiroz, has agreed that the coach should stay,” he said.
However, he explained that the final decision does not solely depend on the GFA, as the contract extension must also receive approval from the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, which is responsible for funding the coach’s salary.
“The final decision does not rest on the FA. It must go to the ministry for them to look at the contract and approve because they will pay the salary of the coach,” Asante Twum added.
Queiroz was appointed Black Stars coach on a short-term deal ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he guided Ghana to the knockout stage of the tournament.
Discussions over extending his stay have continued, with the GFA and government authorities expected to reach a final decision on the future of the experienced Portuguese trainer.
