Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council member Gideon Fosu has confirmed that discussions are ongoing to appoint the next head coach of the Black Stars following the departure of Carlos Queiroz.
The Portuguese tactician took charge of Ghana on a four-month contract in April ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, replacing Otto Addo, who was dismissed in March. However, negotiations over a contract extension reportedly collapsed due to financial demands, bringing Queiroz’s stint to an end.
Speaking to Citi Sports, Fosu assured Ghanaians that the national team will have a substantive coach in place before its next competitive fixtures.
“I think what’s there for Ghanaians to know is that we’ll definitely play Senegal and we have to play the qualifiers, right? What I can say on authority is that we are definitely going to have a coach who is in charge of the team.”
He added that the appointment process is still ongoing and urged supporters to remain patient.
“We are still talking, we are still negotiating. I am sure that at the right time, the president of the FA will announce who the next coach of the Black Stars will be.”
Queiroz reportedly earned $80,000 per month during his time in charge of the senior national team.
The Black Stars are expected to return to action in September when they begin their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Ghana, who failed to qualify for the previous AFCON in Morocco, have been drawn in Group C alongside Côte d’Ivoire, The Gambia and Somalia as they seek a return to the continental tournament.
