Ghana left-back Ebenezer Annan has joined Romanian club FC Rapid 1923 from Saint-Etienne on loan in a move worth €150,000.
The 24-year-old has moved from France’s Ligue 2 to Romania’s SuperLiga, with the loan agreement running until 30 June 2027. Annan joined Rapid 1923 on 25 August 2026 and will continue his career with the Bucharest club after a season at Saint-Etienne.
Annan made the switch to Saint-Etienne from Serbian side Red Star in August 2025 for €2m. He had spent the previous campaign with Red Star, helping the club win the Serbian league title and Serbian Cup. He was also part of the Red Star squad that secured a second successive Serbian championship in 2025-26.
The defender’s move to Rapid comes at the start of the 2026-27 campaign. He has not made an appearance in Ligue 2 this season, having recorded no starts, goals or assists before leaving Saint-Etienne.
Born in Accra, Annan is a Ghana international whose preferred position is left-back. He stands 1.78m tall and is left-footed, offering Rapid a specialist option on the left side of defence.
Annan began his senior career in Italy, joining Imolese from Bologna’s under-19 side on loan in July 2022. A further temporary move took him to Novi Pazar in July 2023, before he returned to Bologna at the end of that season.
He then joined Novi Pazar permanently in July 2024 for €350,000. His time there was brief, however, with Red Star signing him for €550,000 in the same month. Annan subsequently spent part of the 2024-25 season on loan at OFK Beograd before returning to Red Star at the end of December 2024.
His latest transfer gives him a fresh opportunity in the Romanian top flight after one year in France. Rapid 1923 have completed the loan deal, with Annan remaining contracted to Saint-Etienne beyond the end of his spell.
